WHAT IS EM™?
EM® stands for Effective Microorganisms®, a brand name referring to a family of microbial- based products using a technology developed by Japanese scientist Dr. Teruo Higa. The main product, EM·1®, is a liquid bacterial product comprising three groups of microbes: Yeast, Photosynthetic Bacteria, and Lactic Acid Bacteria. EM·1® works together with local and native beneficial microbes, creating a synergy among microorganisms and larger forms of life including insects and worms, pets and livestock, and people. All products using EM Technology®contain EM·1® in some part of their manufacturing process.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
EM™ (Effective Microorganism) ceramics emit far infrared waves, the longest rays in the light spectrum. This wavelength is highly compatible with human and animal tissue. The body can absorb them easily at depths up to 3 inches, where they can do lots of good work. Far Infrared waves remove blood cell clusters which improves blood circulation. Because the infrared rays penetrate the tissue, they work deep into body tissue, not just on the surface of the skin.
This improved and balanced environment in your dog (created by EM) can help keep ticks from attaching to your dog.
EM™ ceramics are made by fermenting a special clay with approximately 80 different microorganisms (EM) and then baked. The pipes are baked at 1200 C, due to the fact that in the baking process the structure of the clay changes, trapping the EM within its matrix. As a result, these EM pipes exert their influence purely through their physical properties and remain effective for a long time.
An EM™ Tick Collar can be as effective as any tick repellent found on the market, but without side effects. That makes it also safe for dogs with allergies and sensitivities. However, there is no 100% guarantee EM collars nor any other tick product will keep ticks off us or our pets. The best prevention is to avoid known tick areas, and to check your dog AND yourself for ticks after every nature walk.
EM ceramics are safe for children and other pets to be around (but they are not toys nor food!). They can be used in conjunction with chemical flea and tick applications although it is recommended that you keep the collars off your dog for 7 days after a chemical treatment.
Literature available suggests that EM collars reduce in effectiveness after 10-12 months. It is therefore recommended that you renew your EM collar every year at the start of tick season.
It may take up to 4 weeks for your collar to become effective.
Some Important Notes to Add:
I have always used a natural tick spray in conjunction with my em collars and the dogs were tick free last year. I also wear an em bracelet throughout the season.
You will get the best results when your dog (or you your bracelet) wears the collar 24 hours. it is always recommended to keep the EM™ collar on during the tick season.
Rinse the collar thoroughly under warm tap water and let it dry in the sun about every second week. (don’t use soap or other chemicals!) It is very important to keep the pipes clean! You can also use a little nail brush, if you want to.
If you are using essential oils or a bug spray in addition to the EM collar, make sure the EM ceramic pipes stay oil/fat free! I have always used a natural tick spray in conjunction with my em collars and the dogs were tick free last year. I also wear an em bracelet throughout the season.
Swimming with the EM™collar is no problem; just let it dry in the sun afterwards (Although it is NOT to be used in Pool water with bleach or other chemicals in it!).
It is recommended to renew the EM™ collar every year.
An EM™ breakaway collar is only an addition to your main collar! Please do not attach a leash to it!
For your dog’s safety: please take the EM™collar off when your dog is playing rougher than ‘normal’ with other dogs. It is no problem to take the collar off for a little bit during the day.
